Easy assembly, nice product
By Michaela
I love modern furniture and knew I wanted a shell rocker for our daughter's nursery, but we're not exactly operating on an Eames budget. This rocker seemed to strike the right balance; nice looking, small enough for a nursery, and well-priced. My aunt gifted us with it and it arrived yesterday.Assembly:I assembled it in less than ten minutes, without any instructions (and I'm eight months pregnant with limited flexibility).Quality:I like the plastic shell, it's a clean white and slightly textured. It's definitely durable and easy to clean. Feels sturdy and well made.Functionality:As for the rocking motion, I find it smooth and easy on my hardwood floors. I haven't tested it on a rug yet. It is very comfortable. I can rest my arms on it with ease and has a nice cradling effect.Size:In terms of size, I will admit that I was worried. Previous reviewers felt that it is very small and I wondered exactly how small it would be. Child sized? Doll sized? Too small for a 5 foot 7 woman? Nah. I fit perfectly in this rocker. Even with the extra girth of pregnancy, I'm sitting comfortably in it. A few points about height and positioning though. It is low to the ground, but not so much that I'm crunched up (and I have long legs). Rocking is easy. A low hassock would be nice with this. One thing that does give me pause is the depth of the shell. It forces me to lean further back than I like. At first, I was a little worried that I'd go heels over head in this thing. I quickly realized that this would be unlikely to happen as the rails are well placed to keep it from toppling over backwards. Despite this, I'm probably going to use a small pillow behind my back.Nursing:One point of concern I had about the rocker was how comfortable it would be for nursing. I'll update this section once our daughter is born, but my exhaustive research tells me that the nursing experience is very different from person to person. My opinion may vary greatly from that of the next woman to nurse her baby in it....UPDATE 11/17/11: Our daughter was born on 11/11/11 and we've been exclusively breastfeeding since. As a nursing rocker, this chair is ok. I don't need a pillow to support my back like I thought would be the case. A nice cozy blanket provides plenty of bolstering. The rocker accommodates me, baby Alaina, and a nursing pillow comfortably. I can lean back easily without slouching. The only issue is how high the back comes up. For night nursing, it would be nice to have something that supports my shoulders. Despite this, I like to sit in it during the day and rocking is easy with the baby in my arms. My rating hasn't changed and I still love this chair. Hope that helps any expectant parents out there!Overall:A great buy for budget-conscious lovers of modern design. I'd love to have purchased the real deal and been able to hand a true heirloom of design down to my daughter. Maybe some day. When we hit the lotto. Instead, she'll enjoy this rocker and hopefully inherit our thrifty ways.

Not too shabby
By Brian
Not bad and obviously way cheaper than the real thing or some other knockoffs of the real thing. Some small things worth noting--the hardware is on the cheap side (allen bolts likely to strip if you're not careful) but that is pretty typical of anything else in this price range. Not unexpected, just beware. The shell itself is a sort of textured plastic, semigloss--not the fiberglass of the original. No reason to expect anything else, but on close inspection the differences become apparent. I am mildly curious to see how it holds up over time as far as stains and such go. As noted in some other reviews, it IS smaller-seeming in real life than it would appear in photos. It sits fine and rocks nice enough, is comfortable enough for extended use, but honestly it looks kind of like a kid's chair. Not having the real thing next to it to compare I can't speak to its authenticity, but in our living room with the other furniture (couch, recliner) it does look oddly small. This wouldn't stop me from buying it again though; for the money it's a nice enough copy with the style of the original minus the cost (with some obvious caveats re: quality).

Very good reproduction
By Ed
Well made. Went together just fine and feels sturdy. Legs are chrome, unlike the pictured black, but that was good in my opinion. It is a carbon copy of the original Eames RAR. If you're not familiar with the original, you may be surprised at how small the chair is. It fits us just fine, but in comparison to modern day chairs it is small.
